Drew’s Story

[September 2008]

Drew Jonathan Duble
“Jehovah Gave”

Both Troy and I grew up in loving Christian homes…God had His hand on us.

Four years ago we lived a charmed life: great marriage, three wonderful children, our dream home, loving family, friends, and neighbors–we couldn’t have asked for anything more…God had His hand on us.

Three years ago, our little four year-old Noah was taken to heaven…God had his hand on us.

Two years ago, God gave us Tess, our fourth child; she is a great gift…God had His hand on us.

Nine months ago we started to feel like God was leading us to adoption, but we were nervous and didn’t obey right away…God had His hand on us.

On September 10 we finally turned in our adoption paperwork and felt a huge relief and peace of mind; we were ready to wait on God and let Him direct our lives…God had His hand on us.

On September 17th we got a phone call from our adoption lawyer who said, “We have a baby for you at Erlanger!”

After that it was a whirlwind of excitement, a frenzy of paperwork and an overwhelming sense of anticipation. We can’t believe a little baby boy is now a part of our family–we are truly in awe of the gift of Drew Jonathan. We have seen God’s fingerprints over this whole process. God is concerned with the major and minor details of our life and we see that so clearly through the life of this little baby. There are so many signs that God has shown us in this past week but just to name a few–Drew should have never been born, we weren’t the first family on the list to get Drew, but God orchestrated that to work in our favor too, by providing that family to foster Drew.  They showed us Jesus’ love by  generously taking care of Drew and loving on him until all the paperwork was finalized; every hurdle was knocked down before it could even get in the way and God has given us amazing peace through this process. Troy and I have always felt privileged to have been placed in the beautiful families God chose for us, and now to have a child, who could have grown up in such different circumstances, so directly placed in our family is an astounding and gracious gift from God. We hope to teach Drew that God will always have His hand on him.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”
